The Effects of Stress

Stress can affect you in four different ways:

The Physical Effects of Stress

These result in a physically perceived overload. These are present in many forms. One of the first areas to consider is the chemical burden from our modern and affluent lifestyle. Pesticides, fertilisers, additives, sprays and other chemicals which we constantly contact initiate stress reactions within our bodies.

In the excellent book "Allergy Overload", Stephen Griffiths alerts us to the 5,000 allowable food additives; some of which we will ingest daily. Bluntly stated, they slowly poison us. The ingestion of allergenic foods is highly stressful. Most people are considered intolerant to something, the detrimental effects of tea, coffee and alcohol. In addition to being nutritionally valueless, these beverages create a direct physical stress on the internal organs responsible for detoxifying them (mainly the liver) and further unbalance our emotional state because they are stimulating drugs.

There can be physical stress from over exertion as in the case of unfit people attempting stressful exercise, or athletes pushing to achieve goals well beyond the intended capacity of their bodies. Some people feel driven by a fanatical desire to exercise and often end up exhausted and totally depleted.

Consider also, people who work long hours or shift-hours where the natural rhythm of bodily function and internal energy exchanges are either inhibited or thrown out of balance. The proverbial 'workaholic' very often suffers, primarily from physical exhaustion caused by deep - rooted psychological origins.

The Emotional Effects of Stress

Create tension and irritability which is very often manifested as disease and illness as ways of dealing with emotions that cannot be expressed. When a person finds themselves in a circumstance which they feel is beyond their control and with seemingly no resolve, they will often subconsciously transfer their feelings to the physical, as its form of expression.

A common example here is headache, and a common cause of headache is the feeling of hopelessness that results from being locked into a particular role or circumstance. Of course, the more organic causes of headache could include eyestrain, constipation or neck problems and these areas would need to be investigated too. However, no amount of physical therapy will solve the problem if there is a strong emotional "cause" behind it.

A further example of the way that we use disease would be stomach aches in children. This can be a very effective means of gaining parental attention by a child who feels that a new member of the family is getting more than their fair share of attention.

Skin problems usually have an identifiable emotional basis. An irritating skin complaint can often be the result of irritating life circumstances or an irritating person that one would rather not be involved with. It might be irritation with one's job.

If such stresses are not dealt within the right way at the emotional level, they will most likely manifest as an irritating rash or similar condition until the problem is resolved. Another example is constipation. If chronic cases do not respond to the physical priorities of more water and fibre in diet, the cause may be retention in the mind for example holding on tenaciously to old ideas or relationships that no longer serve our best interests. These mental retentions can manifest as the physical retention of rubbish that we would best be well rid of.

Do note at this point that a seemingly identical emotional problem may manifest as a particular physical disease in one person and yet as a completely different disease in another person. There is no hard and fast rule of "one stress, one disease".

The Mental Effects of Stress

These impair logical thinking and can occur for many reasons. There may be a conflict at work or at home; worry about ones appearance or abilities or relationships, children, career or finances. Indeed anything.

A problem which does not bear a second thought for one person, may be a catastrophe for another. These stresses and conflicts are very real for those who are experiencing them. In this sense, stress is highly subjective and here in lies a major key to correcting it. To change ones thinking about a problem is often enough to correct that problem.

The very existence of worrying stress is confirmation that better ways of approaching and handling the situation need to be found. Stressful problems must be rectified or they will make us miserable emotionally and will very likely manifest physically. The vehicles for this physical manifestation being our nervous and endocrine systems, which form the link between thought and the physical. Suppressed emotions result in physical disease as well as mental disease. Two of the more common conditions which are easily related to stress are ulcers and hypochlorhydria. These are often the direct result of emotional and physical stress.

You will recognise that these complaints result in pain and poor digestion and will eventually have an effect on every cell within our body. In recognising the stress - emotional link between the mind and the body, healing must be initiated on both levels. If stress is an identifiable component of most physical problems then every effort must be made to deal with problems emotionally as well as physically. Dietary intervention is also essential.

Dietary indiscretions will be a major factor in maintaining any illness, however it may not be the main issue. If we use ulcers as an example: too only modify the diet would be to treat only half (or less) of the problem. This would not be getting at the cause which may be dissatisfaction with their job or relationship, or just an inability to cope with life as they see it.

To pursue the example of ulcers a little further; we know that they are usually caused by stress. We also know that people under stress are likely to drink alcohol and coffee to try and cope with their stress. Foods that are sugary, fatty and salty are also tasty and satisfying and make a great "pick me up" when we are down or depressed. These foods are popular with ulcer sufferers. So, stress has contributed to the ulcer and has also been a major reason for our choice of inappropriate foods. This poor diet will contribute greatly to increased stress levels because of the "highs and lows" created by the drug-like effect of sugar, coffee and alcohol.

The Behavioral Effects of Stress

These are observable in the way we act or behave. For this it is necessary to observe what happens on a physiological level, and understand how stressful events and emotions affect us physically. We accept that the more toxic elements of our diet have a depressing effect on us. However, it appears that the emotional strains are even more debilitating.

Anything which comprises our immune system is a serious threat to our health. From a purely physical point of view our body reacts the same way, no matter what the stress is. Be it an argument with your employer of flight from a wild animal; the physical response will be basically the same; only the degree of response will vary according to the intensity of the stress. The advantages of the latter example is that you are either going to be eaten by that wild animal or you will escape.

Either way the stress will be resolved. It is often not possible to resolve stresses in our modern and complex framework of social interaction. Intense emotions may have to be buried with no opportunity for immediate or short term resolve. These feelings of anger, futility, resentment and hurt are left to eat away at our very core.

Physical and emotional threats to our well-being are registered by the Hypothalamus in the brain. The Hypothalamus is a major control centre of the brain and initiates reactions via the Autonomic Nervous System. This system is not directly under our conscious control and can act in many ways. It can restrict blood flow or digestive secretions and inhibit the genitalia. It may act to dilate the blood vessels serving muscles involved in the "fight or flight" response. Nerves to the face can dilate pupils and tense facial muscles.

Something as simple as an embarrassing word can send blood rushing to our face. An angry word at work may send blood rushing to our arms and muscles to prompt other physical changes. It is important to acknowledge that all stresses are not bad. Some stress is necessary and is a great motivator. Indeed stress reactions are very necessary for our survival. They are our body's way of preparing for and dealing with crises. This is both necessary and healthy.

What is not healthy is excessive or chronic (ongoing, long term) stress. When we are chronically stressed all of these physical reactions remain active. Everything is thrown out of balance. It is hardly conducive to the digestion if, through a stress reaction, your blood has been directed away from the digestive area and gastric secretion has been inhibited.

Two examples of this would be arguing at the dinner table or maintaining intense mental activity at work whilst eating lunch. The Pituitary Gland is actually an anatomical extension of the Hypothalamus; so close is the connection between the brain and the endocrine glands. The pituitary sends our many hormones which act directly on the tissues of the body and on other endocrine glands which put out even more hormones. Pituitary hormones stimulate the thyroid which produces hormones to raise the metabolic rate during times of stress. Adrenocorticotrophic hormone, or ACTH is produced by the pituitary and carried by the blood to the adrenals.

Therefore, the brain's response to various stresses can increase the secretion of glucocoriticoide from the adrenal cortex to bring about adaptive metabolic responses in order to increase bodily resistance and survival. In conclusion, it is important to realise that however well you appear to cope with everyday life, you will experience stress to some degree.

Moderate amounts are good for you, and can improve your performance, your efficiency and productivity. But too much may generate disabling emotions such as overwhelming anxiety and tension, difficulty in thinking clearly, and a wide range of behavioural responses.

Is it Worth Buying Your Youngster a New Softball Bat? - Tips to Help Your Hitting

Kitting kids out for softball or baseball practice usually starts with buying the right team colors, shoes, mitts, helmet...but spending the money on a new softball bat? Is it really worth it?

Well, yes: it's essential that a child has a bat that suits them because if the bat is the wrong size or weight then it will hinder your child's development. Doesn't really matter what you wear, after all. What matters in softball, baseball - in fact, most sports - is how you perform. So the most important area to focus on, especially for young players, is how to improve your play. And since we're talking about bats we'll concentrate in this article on hitting rather than the other aspects of the game.

It's all very well to allow your kids to get out in the park and practice hit till it's too dark to see, but unless they learn correct techniques from the off, they're in danger of ingraining bad habits into their performance. And those kinda things take much longer to iron out than they do to get used to.

First thing without question is that the bat must be the right size. The bat must fit just as well as shoes or helmet, so test out a bat by holding it out parallel to the ground for about 15 seconds: if that's too long a time, or the bat wobbles, it's likely that bat's too heavy for that player. It's a function of size and weight, so you need to try different bats so you find a bat that suits.

It's always good to practice swings as if you were standing at the plate. Even if you haven't got a home plate where you practice, make one out of paper or card and take it with you. This will help you get used to putting your feet in the right place to address the ball at the plate, standing neither too close nor too far.

Probably the key to strong hitting is good bat speed. You can try developing this with donuts: first add a donut for eight pitches, then try eight without the extra weight. Doing this a couple of times a week will gradually improve bat speed, resulting in better hitting. But however fast you can swing the bat it makes no difference if you can't connect with the ball!

So what about ways to improve your ability to get the bat on the ball? One good way to improve hand-eye co-ordination is to practice with a smaller ball - like a plastic golf ball, for instance. Tossing smaller balls to be hit will force the batter to keep his or her focus firmly on the ball's progress through the air, right up to the moment of impact. Watching the ball till the moment it's actually struck by the bat is the secret to getting bat to ball. Watch the ball all the way on to your bat. Takes practice and concentration, but with feet planted at the moment of impact and body set, you swing through the ball which your eyes are following till the moment you strike.

Actually hitting home runs regularly may be another matter! But it will certainly help if you first of all get hold of a bat which suits you and the way you like to play. There's no question it's worth obtaining the best bat you can manage. Regularly practicing with a bat that 'fits' will do wonders for your hitting.

About Nordic Skiing

The history of skiing dates back to ancestors of the Sami (Laplander) peoples, the earliest skis discovered believed to be dated circa 6300BC. These days skiing is commonly divided into two categories, Nordic and Alpine. In this article we make an overview of the Nordic school of skiing.

Nordic skiing is the older of the two skiing disciplines. It covers any form of skiing where the heel is not fixed to the ski, unlike Alpine skiing where both the toe and heel are fixed to the skis. Free-heel bindings may seem at a disadvantage to their toe and heel secured counter parts, but they are very strong and allow no lateral movement of the boots.

Cross country (XC) skiing is a Nordic skiing discipline. Cross country skiing involves very lightweight shoes to lighten your load, long poles to help you stay steady and not use excess energy, and skis without a metal edge. The base of a cross country ski is different to the standard as it had a patterned or waxed area designed to give you forward movement but not allow you to move backwards. It is also useful in uphill skiing. Recreational cross country skiing is usually termed 'touring'. Touring trips may be just for a few hours, or in some cases may take days, with skiers staying in maintained huts along the way.

Ski jumping is also a Nordic discipline, such as that seen at the Olympics. As an Olympic event ski jumping is currently a male-only competition. Ski jumping has been a part of the Winter Olympics since they began in 1924. The first recorded ski jumper was a Norwegian-Danish Lieutenant named Olaf Rye who obtained the height of 9.5 metres in front of his men in 1809. Rye went on to play a decisive role in the Battle of Fredericia and died a hero with a number of streets and barracks being named after him. The idea caught on, and by 1862 skiers were achieving over 30 air bourne meters. This record stood for over 30 years. The first large ski jump competition was held in Oslo in 1879 and the record was set at 20 metres. Technology and technique have moved on slightly, with the current record being set at 797ft in the aptly named discipline of Ski Flying. Ski Flying is very much based on ski jumping, but with bigger hills and modified equipment. The Ski Jumping World Cup also hold competitions in 'normal hill' and 'large hill' categories, as well as the ski flying competition.

Nordic combined skiing is also a male-only winter sport as it encompasses both cross country skiing ad ski jumping. There is currently no recognised women's event in this sport. It consists of three events, the Sprint, The Team, and the Individual Gundersen. The Sprint consists of a large hill jump and a 7.5km cross country race. The Team has four members per team and consists of two jumps on a normal hill, then a 5km relay race (each member racing 5km to a total of 20km). The Individual Gundersen refers to the means of determining the starting order the third section, a normal hill jump followed by a 15km cross country race.

Telemark skiing is also classed as a Nordic disciplines, which uses the Telemark turn. The Telemark turn is similar to a parallel turn except the skier leads with the outside ski and allows the inside ski to trail, raising the knee and heel. Telemark skiing fell out of fashion when parallel skiing became popular, being the easier to learn of the two to learn. However Telemark skiing is still taught and practised, and may be making a comeback.

Get As Many One Way Links And Increase Link Popularity

When establishing links and exchanging links this helps your rankings with the search engines and builds on connecting with other business owners. When exchanging links with other webmasters you will need to give them your code and you will need to use their code on your site.

A few years ago if you placed a link on each page of other sites this would help your rankings, this does not work anymore. However, nowadays a site wide link on another website will not help you at all. Many people would agree that having a lot of links to your website is the key to rank well in all search engines. As a website grows and is around for a long period of time links will be established that point to the website and this will happen slowly.

If you want to improve your page rank of your site, make sure that the links you exchange are relevant to your site. Make sure your site has incredible unique content and it is related to your site. If you exchange links with a bad site this will hurt your sites rankings on the search engines. Bad links lead to reduced link popularity and in turn can eventually lead to being banned on search engines. Search Engine Robots give a lot of weight to relevancy. Link farms are a definite no. Most of the sites will not be relevant to yours.

Quality is better than quantity. If you are starting a website and you receive hundreds of one way links in a short period of time, does this look natural to you, well it sure doesn't look natural to the search engines. Remember that value and quality are more important than volume of links.

The most successful way to get links pointing to your site is to create unique original content. Webmasters who visit your website will see that content is good and will link to your website to provide their visitors with some useful websites. There are many different approaches and techniques required when optimizing a website for a high ranking in your chosen search engine. Content on the other hand is what brings the readers. It is still the number one factor, content gets visitors back to your site and unique content also gets inbound links, overtime this will increase the presence of the site. The site should be optimized for your chosen keyword or keywords.

Link exchange is an essential part of search engine optimization and website traffic. More thought and planning you put into your title and description, the more powerful your link exchange will have. When the link is in the body of the content it shows that this link is relevant to the content, and the visitor is being recommended that they visit the website which is attached to the link. Reciprocal link exchange is still a very popular practice among webmasters. Since everyone knows by now that you need many quality links many SEO webmaster try to think up many different ways of getting links.

Many websites are competing for the same keywords and for the same spot on the search engines, you need to pay close attention of who your competitors are. Since a high ranking in a keyword can "make or break" a business, webmasters are looking to find any method to increase their ranking.

Beginner Guitar Lessons - How to Survive Music Experts and the Arrogance of Ignorance

Guitar players of all levels have to constantly be on the lookout for potential blocks to the progress. In fact, the whole process of guitar playing is a course in "problem solving".

How far you progress down the guitar playing path depends on your ability to clearly identify and overcome obstacles. Firstly, let's identify the type of common obstacles guitarist's encounter.

Guitar playing obstacles:

1. physical 2. mental - data 3. psychological

Physical obstacles can be overcome by (a) making c were riding on a bus and someone made a comment about dentistry hardly anyone would make a remark about what was being said, since dentistry is considered a specialist field therefore unless you were a fellow dentist you would figure it would be best to say nothing. Now, if you were in the same bus and made a comment about Elton John, Elvis or Green Day everyone would be climbing over each other with something important to say about a each artist.

Why ... because music is everywhere, radio, TV, Internet ... you name it, it's there ...music is to human beings like water is to fish it's everywhere therefore the general public consider themselves self appointed experts. Very few would think of opening their mouth if the discussion was about accounting or the medical profession yet music is a specialist field that requires years of dedicated training just like all other professions.

Here's a few tips to safeguard your guitar playing when next you come in contact with these "experts".

Tip 1 - family and friends (music expert) this species of expert means well however the comments can be fatal to the sensitive guitar player. Comments such as, can't you play "Smoke On The Water" etc., yet? ... you have been learning for months, everyone knows how to play "Smoke On The Water"!

Solution - don't say anything, just ask yourself what degree of musical expertise has the person making this comment ever achieved. There's a good chance their only musical achievement is to be able to turn on a CD player. By the way ... not every person wants to play "Smoke On The Water", it's a good rock song but if "your" musical preference is jazz you would be better off listening to someone like Charlie Christian or Louis Armstrong. Do I make my point clear ... you are learning the guitar for your own musical enjoyment ... you don't have to entertain everyone by playing "their" favorite tunes.

Tip 2 - Guitar player (music expert), this variety of expert is quite hazardous to your guitar playing career. Sometimes these well meaning "experts" can easily set your guitar playing back 50 years! Remember a little bit of knowledge can be dangerous ... and with these part-time experts you have to be careful.

Solution - Always check the source of the information before you take it on board. Has this player ever played in a professional group ... I'm not talking about a messy, jam session where everyone gets to play for a cut of the door takings. Beware of where the advice is coming from otherwise you could end up just as confused as them!

Tip 3 - Internet - (guitar guru/music expert) possibly the most harmful of all the self appointed "experts". My favorite cartoon about the Internet comes from the 2000 edition of The New Yorker Collection at cartoonbank ...it's a cartoon with two dogs typing on a computer, one dog says to the other "On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog." And that sums it up ... anyone and everyone is an expert on the Internet and boy when it comes to guitar there's no shortage of musical geniuses. You know the type ... learn the guitar in 5 minutes, play like a star, promoting guitar TAB.

Solution - An important distinction I discovered with offline music stores was that they are essentially "paper merchants" not information givers... that's not their role. This applies to online products as well ... are they simply well marketed digital products or do the actually teach you something of value? As with our previous tips check out the vendor's musical track record ... quite often the course was "ghostwritten" by some other hot shot player. Keep in mind, good players don't always make good teachers and visa versa.

Bonus Tip 4 - like everything else in life, it's always "buyer beware" ... learn to read music, become musically literate then you are in control of your musical progress! I invite you to use these tips and tools when you play the guitar.

30 Truisms About eBook Authoring

The decision to author an eBook is a life-changing decision. The "fallout" from publishing an eBook will change forever the way you see yourself and the way others see you.

Why? That's difficult to say. But the following list of 30 Truisms gleaned from the experiences of successful eBook authors will help answer the question.

So, what are you waiting for? Read the list. Make the decision to author an eBook.

1. You will have access to a world-wide audience via the Internet 24/7 so your book store is always open. You will be amazed when you get downloads of your eBook from 100+ countries and you realize just how small the world really is.

2. You can afford to give away free updated versions of your eBook because of the low cost of making changes and the virtually free delivery system.

3. You can/must/should build a long-term relationship with your customers using email addresses supplied when your eBook is ordered. You can also use this list for communicating other offers to these same customers but never sell or give away your opt-in list.

4. Your readers are a valuable source of feedback on your current eBook if given the opportunity. You can also use their feedback, questions, concerns, and requests to get insights into what other topics need to be addressed for the same target market.

5. Communication skills are very important. You must learn how to write convincing ad and sales copy, effective eZine material, web site content and email communications. Enjoy the excitement of meeting new people all the time.

6. Being in control of the entire eBook authoring process is both a blessing and a curse. You don't have to take orders and direction from anyone else. You are totally responsible for what happens with your eBook. It's an exciting proposition.

7. eBook authoring can lead to self-employment. You can enhance current careers or start new ones. You can use your eBook as a secondary passive income or as a catalyst for an entirely new business. The possibilities are many.

8. Make your dream of writing a book come true. eBooks can fill your authoring needs within a workable time frame, with minimal financial investment, with reasonable effort and with success guaranteed.

9. You become involved in an adventure in creative writing, eBook technology, communication skills and building relationships.

10. You have the opportunity to share your expertise, passion, and knowledge with an audience that needs your help. As a bonus, you are leaving a written legacy of your experiences, wisdom and insights.

11. eBooks are the most cost efficient form of publishing available to you. Recovering your costs is guaranteed. Even if you never recover your initial financial investment, the experience of authoring a published book will still be worth it. Consider it an investment in you.

12. The friendly letter style of writing found in eBooks is conducive to the personal conversation that takes place between the author and the reader. Anyone can effectively communicate in an eBook using simple every-day language and some good planning. eBooks are not academic dissertations.

13. Because of the interactions possible between the author and the readers, it becomes a growth and learning experience for everyone. eBooks can be made as dynamic as you wish. Static standard published books don't have that option.

14. As a published eBook author, you move from the realm of anonymous individual with plenty to share and no means to do it to a measure of importance because of your expertise as a published author. "Experts" have earned that status of respect.

15. The majority of eBook authors can effectively write their book with little or no research. By "conversing" with the reader sharing what you already know and have experienced, you can fill in the details of your Table of Contents. Write - Research - Write. Write your entire book from memory. Go back and fill in the gaps with research. Then edit (re-write) to your final draft before publishing.

16. You will learn as much about yourself as you will about your topic as you complete the eBook authoring journey.

17. While marketing and selling your eBook you are also marketing and selling yourself. You are creating a Brand of both the eBook and yourself. You will be changed forever and be forever changing.

18. The passiveness of earning income from your eBook may be new for many authors. You create your eBook once (excluding revisions) then go on with your life while the eBooks sells on the Internet 24/7 using auto-responders so you can carry on doing whatever you want to do. Passive income from working once and benefiting many times over is the principle that successful entrepreneurs use to build wealth.

19. An "ordinary" person becomes an "extraordinary" person by authoring an eBook. Authoring is a transformational process. It awakens the author within you and moves you in to new personal and professional territory.

20. eBook authors feel better about themselves acquiring inner and outer confidence, better self-esteem, more worthiness, recognition for their contribution to the world, and a sense of giving back.

21. Self-employment as an eBook author brings with it tax benefits you may not otherwise have had. Expanding a business around your expert status as a published author, allows you to "profit" from the experience. You can actually use your eBook to build a full time business for now or your retirement.

22. Authors come to realize very quickly how important the attitudes, skills, and knowledge they have acquired over the years is valued. By sharing wisdom through an eBook, you gain an appreciation for education.

23. The term life-long learning takes on an entirely different meaning when you embark on your eBook authoring journey. You are living this experience not just talking about it.

24. You are doing the world a favour by meeting the needs of niche markets that are often forgotten, dismissed or ignored by the standard publishers. Standard publishers have no interest in a market of 1000 to 10,000 people. But eBooks can reach this market and be profitable doing it. And much appreciated too. Analysis of your target market is a worthwhile experience in itself.

25. eBook authors are overwhelmed by their acceptance into the targeted niche market. Relationships are built, new friends are made, and communication is opened up through eBooks.

26. The thrill of checking your emails to see how many people have purchased your eBook - while you slept or were on vacation - is one that doesn't diminish. It's like magic that 4, 16, or 40 more sales occurred over the past few days while you carried on with life. It's exciting to know that others value what you have to offer and that you are making a difference in someone's life.

27. Identifying and working with niche markets opens up new worlds of opportunities for eBook authors. Working with several related niche target markets at the same time builds reputations and expands business opportunities.

28. Using the eBook as the focus on your business you can easily expand the goods and services you offer to your clients and customers. Consider the possibilities of an expanded business: CD/DVD versions of your eBook; other eBooks; teleseminars; workshops; training programs; consulting; coaching; joint ventures; affiliate marketing; web site hosting; keynote addresses; back of the room sales; co-authoring...

29. Authoring eBooks gives authors the opportunity to measure success in terms other than financial gain. This includes: contacts with people in a more intimate fashion, marketing to the world not just your local area, exchanging ideas with like-minded individuals, expanding your horizons for personal and professional development, satisfying your interest in sharing your expertise and passion, recognition for what you can offer to others, appreciation for small business owners...

30. eBook authors are on the leading edge of a technological revolution where portable devices like eBook readers will join the myriad of other devices transforming our lives. An entire generation is growing up with portable, instant, anywhere/anytime fulfillment of their needs. eBook sales are growing by 30-50% per year and will continue to grow as eBook reading devices improve. Current technology is providing eBook devices that are about the same size as a paperback with LED screens that making reading eBooks as easy on the eyes as reading a paperback.

It all adds up to just one thing! What an experience! What are you waiting for? Take your first step. Take a chance of a lifetime. Author an eBook.

A Better Night's Sleep

It's no fun going through the day sleepy. Each hour drags on and getting motivated or being productive is nearly impossible when we'd rather be dreaming. What's worse, for many, actually falling asleep at night is a struggle.

More than one-third of adults in the United States experience occasional sleep problems and one of every ten suffer from chronic insomnia. Many treat their insomnia with medications but this can be dangerous. A study published in the Canadian Journal of Psychiatry found that taking medications for insomnia or anxiety at least once a month increases your risk of death by 36%. This was a 12-year study that included over 14,000 people. Alarming!

These addictive drugs affect your reaction time, alertness and increase falls, inhibiting your central nervous system, thus affecting judgment and even increasing the risk of suicide. Not only that, this study found that insomnia medications aggravate breathing problems during sleep. But don't panic, there's rest for the weary that comes in the form of natural alternatives and implementing safe, healthy habits. Sleep disorders are common and serious... but their treatable!

Here are some simple ways to get to sleep easier and improve the quality of your sleep, so that you're rested and ready to take on the day:

Unlike pharmaceutical drugs, herbal sleep remedies don't have side-effects. Try a glass of chamomile tea (or a Sleepy Time blend) 15 minutes before bedtime. These teas contain natural sleep aids like valerian, lemon balm and passionflower.

Try simple breathing exercises. Simple things like deep breathing, visualization and muscle relaxation can lower stress hormones and anxiety. You can download audible, guided instructions for these online.

Get your exercise. Studies have shown that exercise can be as effective as prescription drugs for promoting restful sleep. Consistent exercise is essential for controlling stress, depression and healthy sleeping habits. If you exercise outdoors, you'll be benefiting from the sun light, which regulates melatonin production needed for better sleep.

Make your bedroom tranquil, like a spa. Clear away the clutter and make this room exclusively for sleep. Decorate with calming colors and fabrics and ban television and computers.

Avoid food and caffeine. Plan not to eat at least three hours prior to bedtime. If you need an after dinner snack, have a small handful of almonds or a fresh fruit. Limit caffeine intake to the morning hours, and to two cups a day.

Acupuncture and yoga have also been shown to improve the quality of sleep. Ask me more about this!

Did you know that reduced or not enough sleep has been associated with weight gain and obesity in both children and adults? Wow! So, not only is getting a good night's sleep essential to functioning properly and performance, but it effects they way we look. O.K., time for bed!

*Always consult and health care professional before beginning or discontinuing any supplements or medications.

Speed Reading Tactics - What's Your CORE? Not Knowing Can Cost You

Multi-tasking, multiple projects, multiple goals, multi-media pretty much describes the state of the workplace and school environments today. With all this flurry for our attention and focus, it is amazing that anything actually gets completed. With all the distractions around us, unless you know what your CORE is, you may never master speed reading, or get anything notable accomplished.

Do you know what your CORE is? CORE stands for Cost of Reading Effectively. As an employee, every minute of your day can be broken down to the cost of your employment. If you are a business owner, each minute spent doing one thing prohibits you from doing something else that may have a bigger pay-off. Time masters are very aware of this. But there are very few time masters, especially when it comes to reading.

For students, the calculation may not be as apparent. But a student definitely knows what it feels like to have more reading and studying to do than there is sufficient time for effective completion of an assignment.

Whether you work, or whether you are a student, knowing what your CORE is can help you maintain focus. Focus is the key to success in any endeavor.

Taking Your Income to Greater Heights With Air Freight Brokering

Freight sales agents earn a considerable amount of commission when they choose to work with reputable leaders of the logistics industry. Although most shipping companies provide partial and full truckload delivery, not all offer air freight brokering to customers. The growing need for on-time delivery under any circumstance is adequately met by corporations with a wide range of aircraft cargo solutions. For freight sales agents who are satisfied with commissions from scheduling trucks, the expedited movement is going to be hard to ignore. Learning the advantages of specialized logistics will help professionals question whether their broker is contributing to their success, or selling them short.

Date Specification

Providing customers with a multiple day delivery window is an expected part of the trucking process, especially for less than truckload services. Manufacturers are often uncomfortable with flexible arrival times as a result of jeopardizing relationships with customers, inconveniencing warehouse receivers, and losing customers due to late deliveries. Distributors have the right to maintain high standards for products, and establish stability with customers. Logistics companies offering date specified services remain at the top of major manufacturers' lists to protect hard-earned business reputations.

Timing and Precaution

Although they are the most economical choice, big rigs are obviously slower than airplanes, and the risk of damaging goods during transit is significantly higher. There is only one option provided by trucking companies that slightly improves delivery timing and fragile care; upgrading an LTL shipment to full truckload. An agent might offer this as a solution when it is the only method that could possibly salvage the sale. Full truckload shipments do in fact speed up delivery by one or two days. Damages are less likely with one customer's goods on board, rather than collecting products that require multiple stops along the route.

The difference in cost between LTL and TL is rarely worth the benefit. If a customer's goods only take up ten percent of a trailer's total capacity, paying for the full truck is viewed as unreasonable, if not flat out ridiculous. Aircraft delivery services are the most logical accommodation for time-sensitive and fragile cargo, offering next day, second day, next flight out, and charter services that trucking companies simply cannot compete with.

Has This Happened To You?

Any freight sales agents that have lost a loyal customer due to special needs can relate to the disappointment of damaging relationships, as well as losing out on the commission earnings that could have easily been theirs for the taking. Air freight brokering services are regarded as the number one solution for customers experiencing an unplanned product emergency, as well as customers who regularly require capable methods for handling sensitive goods. The transition from a basic trucking company to a corporation that specializes in every aspect of the logistics industry gives an agent the earning potential they truly deserve.
